After the Showdown

1 Kings 19:1-3a catches Elijah in freefall—one threat from Jezebel sends the prophet who just called down fire on Mount Carmel running for his life. After every showdown comes a letdown, and the moment we step off the battlefield is when we're most exposed. The invitation is to name that vulnerable window after our biggest wins and guard it, refusing to make decisions from the bottom of the emotional tank.

We Cannot Help Speaking
August 24, 2026
Acts 4:18-20 gives Peter and John a command—keep believing, just stop saying it out loud—which is almost exactly the deal culture offers you. But Peter says they cannot help speaking about what they've seen and heard. You can lose an argument about the Bible; nobody can beat you in an argument about your own life. The modern cost isn't arrest—it's a seat at a table that used to have you in it. And revival isn't singing louder on Wednesday; it's living differently on Thursday, in the hallway, where someone notices you're not the same.

Sun and Rain for Everyone

Matthew 5:45 asks a question: when the sun comes up, does it only shine on nice people and skip the grumpy ones? Of course not—the nice kid and the mean kid wake up to the same sunshine. Jesus used that to show something about God: His kindness isn't just for a few special people, it's for everyone. And He wants us to be like that too. Anybody can be nice to their best friend, but when you're kind to someone who was mean, people notice—that's God's kind of love shining through you.

Why the King Wept
Luke 19:41–42 shows us that Jesus wept over Jerusalem because the people honored him outwardly without truly receiving him as the Savior who alone could bring them peace. This challenges us to move beyond admiration or conditional faith and instead know Jesus personally, letting him heal, change, and lead our lives from the inside out.

Luke 19:39-40 reminds us that being near Jesus is not the same as being changed by Him; like the Pharisees, we can know the language of faith and still miss the King right in front of us. Zechariah 9:9 reveals that Jesus is the humble King who comes not to manage our brokenness or simply make life easier, but to heal what sin has fractured and restore us to God. Matthew 22:37–40 shows that God has always been after our hearts, not just our outward obedience, revealing that every commandment is ultimately fulfilled in wholehearted love for God and love for others. This leads us away from striving for perfection and into surrender, trusting Jesus—the One who kept the Law perfectly—to transform us by grace from the inside out.

1 Timothy 6:6 teaches that true gain is found when godliness is joined with contentment, freeing us from the clenched-fist life of coveting and helping us trust God with open hands. As we intentionally practice gratitude—especially in hard seasons—we make room for peace, remember God’s faithfulness, and rest in the truth that what He has given is enough.

Philippians 4:11–12 reminds us that contentment is something we learn as we root our hearts in Christ rather than in changing circumstances or endless comparison. When we trust that Jesus is enough, gratitude grows, coveting loses its grip, and we can live with steady peace in plenty or in want.
