Stay on the Wall

August 22, 2026

Nehemiah 6:1-9 records four invitations to leave the wall for the plains of Ono, and four times Nehemiah answers, "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down." When the fifth attempt comes as a public, unsealed letter of lies, he calls the lie a lie and prays four words: "Now strengthen my hands." The devotional urges us to stay on the wall, to P.R.A.Y. rather than become P.R.E.Y., and to let the finished work answer the critics.

Why Stare at Us?

August 22, 2026

Acts 3:11-13 hands Peter the biggest half-second of his life—a healed man jumping around, a crowd sprinting over, all eyes on him—and his first words are "why are you staring at us?" Boldness that only shows up when it costs you something is half the test; the other half is what you do when boldness starts working. The same man who folded in the courtyard because it was all about protecting himself now couldn't be stopped, because it wasn't about him at all. If it's about you, everything rides on you—but you were never the point. You're the one pointing.

Let Your Light Shine

August 22, 2026

Matthew 5:16 ties the whole week together: when you're not busy worrying, what do you have room to do instead? Shine. Worry uses up all your attention spinning round and round about yourself, but when you hand it to God, you suddenly have room to notice the kid next to you who needs a friend. A worried heart hides its light; a trusting heart shines bright. Your light isn't really about you—it points people straight to God.

It’s In Us

Ecclesiastes 3:11 and 2 Corinthians 4:18 reveal that God has set eternity in our hearts, reminding us that our lives are meant for more than fleeting moments. While the world urges us to chase temporary gains, Jesus calls us to focus on the eternal, investing in relationships and actions that carry lasting significance. By fixing our eyes on what is unseen and eternal, we align our everyday lives with God’s greater purpose.

Costly

Matthew 16:24 teaches that following Jesus involves denying ourselves and embracing sacrifice, just as Jesus endured the cross. True discipleship is not just about serving in comfortable ways, but stepping into difficult situations, trusting God through pain and challenges. Although costly, this path leads to transformation and a deeper purpose as we share in His redemptive work.

Not A Spectator Sport

James 1:22 and 1 John 3:18 remind us that true faith is not just about understanding or believing, but about actively living out God’s Word. We are called to follow Jesus by embodying His love through our actions, trusting that even in our imperfections and doubts, God can use us to bring hope and light into the world. Faithfulness is our part, while the results are in God's hands.

Chasing Fame

Galatians 1:10 reminds us that seeking the approval of others leads us away from serving Christ. In a world obsessed with fame and recognition, we are called to glorify God, not ourselves. True satisfaction comes from living for His glory, which endures far beyond the fleeting praise of people.

Do You Need Power

James 5:16 and Jeremiah 33:3 remind us that prayer is powerful and effective, capable of moving mountains and transforming lives. It is not just a quiet conversation but a force that connects us to God's strength, healing, and guidance. Trust in the power of prayer, bringing your burdens to God, knowing He listens and responds.

Walk In The Light

Ephesians 5:8 calls us to live as children of light, not shifting between light and darkness for convenience. Walking in the light means living transparently before God, guided by His truth, and reflecting His love in every aspect of life. Choose to embrace this freedom by fully committing your thoughts and actions to Him daily.

The Real Thing

Psalm 46:10 and John 5:17 remind us that God is always present, even in the small, ordinary moments of life. Often, we are too distracted by the noise and busyness around us to notice Him. Take time to pause and recognize God's presence, not waiting for something spectacular but seeing Him in the everyday moments.

Get Help, You Matter

Psalm 34:18 and Matthew 11:28 remind us that God is near to the brokenhearted and offers rest to the weary. It's okay to love Jesus and still seek help when struggling emotionally; reaching out for support is part of God's plan for healing. You matter deeply to Him, and you don't have to face your burdens alone.

Breaking Down Walls

Ephesians 2:14 shows us that Jesus has torn down the walls of division, uniting us as one. Just as He destroyed the barriers between Jews and Gentiles, we are called to break down the walls of pride, fear, or resentment in our own lives, embracing reconciliation and unity through Christ.

Made For Another Place

Philippians 3:20 reminds us that our true citizenship is in Heaven, a place where we are meant to be with God forever. While life on earth is temporary, Heaven is our eternal home, where every longing will be fulfilled and every sorrow wiped away. This hope encourages us to live each day with purpose, knowing our ultimate home awaits.
