Exodus 3:7-10 “The LORD said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.’”
Think
Imagine being one of God's people in Egypt back in Moses' day.
Every day was hard. The people had to work and work, making bricks in the hot sun. The bosses were mean. There were no breaks and no weekends. Some days it felt like nobody cared at all.
So, the people cried out for help. They cried because they were tired. They cried because they were sad.
And guess what? Somebody heard them.
At the burning bush, God told Moses, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people.” Misery means a really sad and hard time. God said he saw it. He heard their crying. And he said he was concerned, which means he cared a lot.
Maybe you have a baby brother, sister, or cousin. When a baby cries in the middle of the night, what happens? A grown-up wakes up. Some families even keep a baby monitor by the bed, so they can hear every little sound. The baby does not need big words. Just one small cry, and someone comes hurrying down the hall.
God is even better than a parent with a baby monitor. He never falls asleep. He never misses a sound. He heard every single cry from his people in Egypt.
But God did not just listen. He did something about it. He said, “I have come down to rescue them.” God had a plan to bring his people out of Egypt and into a good new home. And his plan included Moses. “So now, go,” God said.
Sometimes kids have hard days too. Maybe someone at school said something mean. Maybe your family is going through something tough. Maybe you feel worried, and you don't even know why.
Here is what today's verses tell you. God sees you. He hears you even when your prayer is just a sigh or a few quiet tears. And he cares about you. He is not far away.
God might not fix everything right away. For God's people in Egypt, the rescue took some time. But God was already working, even before they knew it.
When things are hard, you can cry out to God. He is listening. He is working. And God's got it.
Apply
Tell God the hard thing – Is something hard or sad for you right now? Tell God about it in your own words. Then tell a grown-up you trust. God often uses the people around you to help.
Pray
God, thank you for seeing me and hearing me. You know the hard things in my life. Please help me trust that you are working. In Jesus' name. Amen.
