Build a Marriage That Lasts: God's Design for the Two of You
God designed marriage to be a unique, lifelong covenant between a husband and wife. In the New Testament, marriage even pictures Christ's relationship with His followers, the Church. As the One who designed it, God is the only One truly qualified to show you how to build a marriage that lasts.
God Is Your Foundation
Any structure is only as strong as its foundation. When God is the center your marriage is built on, you can weather any storm together. Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1).
Take action: Pray together each night before bed to keep your focus on God as your foundation.
Love Is an Action
A godly marriage doesn't love on an "if-then" basis, and it isn't built on feelings alone. The love you show your spouse should reflect the love God shows you every single day.
Take action: Schedule a weekly date night to stay connected with your spouse.
Forgiveness Is Expressed
Forgiveness plays a huge role in marriage. Left unaddressed, bitterness, resentment, and division take root. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).
Take action: Set aside time each night to talk through your day and clear up any hurts before bitterness can settle in.
Support Is Applied
You were never meant to do marriage in isolation — you were created for community. Surrounding yourselves with other couples and a church family helps you go the distance.
Take action: Plug into a Connect Group or a Bible Study class and build a support system around your marriage.
