A Wide Berth

August 15, 2026

Proverbs 26:4-5 reads like a contradiction until you see it's a framework rather than a formula: sometimes silence answers the fool, sometimes a measured word does. Criticism has arrived as anonymous letters and now as posts, but the discipline stays the same — you don't have to read every word written about you. The wide berth isn't retreat; it's a strategy that guards your calling and the people who actually matter.

Two Voices

August 15, 2026

Isaiah 6:5-7 shows what happens after Isaiah collapses in guilt: an angel flies to *him* with a coal from the altar and tells him his sin is taken away. Notice the direction—Isaiah doesn't crawl toward God, grace crosses the room to him, with no lecture and no list. You don't get clean and then come to God; you come to God and He cleans you, and the question that shapes your whole year isn't whether you fall but whether you know the way back to verse 7.

You Can't Serve Both

August 15, 2026

Matthew 6:24 says no one can serve two masters—like two people calling your name at once, you have to pick one. Money isn't evil, but it can turn into a sneaky boss that whispers "get more, keep more, spend it all on yourself." Jesus reminds us that serving God and serving stuff pull in opposite directions, and you were designed for something better than chasing things that break: to love God, serve people, and shine your light.

When the Crowd Gets Loud

Luke 14:25 reminds us that following Jesus requires more than enthusiasm—it demands commitment, even when it costs us the crowd’s approval. In a culture driven by likes and popularity, we’re called to choose obedience over acceptance, trading hype for holiness and learning to value Christ’s voice above all others.

First Things First

Matthew 6:33 reminds us to begin the year by seeking God’s kingdom above all else, trusting that when He is our first priority, everything else falls into its rightful place. This is an invitation not just to plan better, but to live centered—aligning our daily decisions, desires, and direction with the presence and purposes of Jesus.

The Things We Carry

Matthew 11:28–30 offers a gentle invitation to lay down the burdens we were never meant to carry and walk in step with Jesus, whose way brings true rest for our souls. As the year begins, we’re called not to push harder, but to release pressure, trust His presence, and find freedom in His unforced rhythms of grace.

Resetting the Rhythm

Mark 1:35 shows us that even in seasons of momentum, Jesus prioritized quiet with the Father—teaching us that true strength and clarity flow from a rhythm of solitude, prayer, and presence. As the noise of life resumes, we’re invited to reset our pace by intentionally creating space for God, allowing His presence—not pressure—to shape our days.

A Life Re-Centered

Matthew 6:33 calls us to seek God’s kingdom first, reminding us that a centered life begins not with striving, but with surrender and alignment to His presence and priorities. As we step into a new year, the invitation is to reorder our hearts around Jesus—letting Him be the foundation from which everything else flows.

Lay It Down

Psalm 90:12 reminds us to live with awareness and wisdom, recognizing the sacredness of each day and the invitation to surrender what we’ve carried. As the year ends, God calls us not to strive for closure but to lay down every burden—joys, regrets, and unanswered prayers—trusting Him to hold our story and prepare us for what’s next.

Preparing for What’s Next

Isaiah 43:18–19 reminds us not to dwell on the past but to stay spiritually open and attentive, because God is already at work doing something new—even in places that feel dry or uncertain. As we approach a new season, we’re invited to prepare our hearts with quietness and surrender, making room for God’s movement by releasing what no longer serves His purpose in us.

Holding On

2 Thessalonians 2:15 urges us to stand firm and hold fast to the truths God has revealed, reminding us that the spiritual growth and lessons of the past year are not meant to be packed away, but carried forward as anchors for the future. As we transition into a new season, we’re called to actively remember God’s faithfulness and let those tested truths shape how we step into what’s next.

Letting Go

Philippians 3:13 invites us to release the weight of the past—not by erasing it, but by refusing to let it define us—so we can move forward in the freedom and peace Christ offers. Letting go is an act of trust that creates space for God’s renewing work and helps us step into the future with open hands and a heart anchored in grace.

A Grace-Filled Glance Back

Deuteronomy 8:2 calls us to look back with grace, remembering how God faithfully led us—even through wilderness seasons—not to dwell in the past, but to carry His presence and perspective into what’s ahead. Reflection rooted in His faithfulness transforms our view of the year, reminding us that every step, even the hard ones, held evidence of His steady grace.
