I AM WHO I AM

Exodus 3:13-15 moves Moses from "Who am I?" to "Who are you?" He needs to know whose authority he is carrying into Pharaoh's court, and God answers with a name that depends on nothing outside itself: I AM WHO I AM. Not becoming, not evolving, not in process. In a conversation full of uncertainty God drops an anchor, because settling who God is settles who we are.

Everybody Wants Acts 2

Acts 2:1-4 gets the suddenly everybody wants—wind, fire, three thousand baptized—but verse 1 says they were still all together in one place, still in the room ten days later when nothing had happened. It's not a formula; nobody earned Pentecost. But the gift landed on the people who were still there, and most students who quit praying don't decide to—they just don't start again after a boring week. You can't schedule a suddenly; you can decide to be in the room, so don't quit on day four.

That's who you really are: a kid the God of the whole universe cannot stop thinking about.
