You Are What You Eat

December 31, 2020

Read

Matthew 4:4, “But Jesus told him, ‘…People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Think

It’s human nature to want what we can’t or shouldn’t have, especially when it comes to starting a diet or fast. Although we know the benefits, once we begin to experience true hunger we start feeling deprived and desperate. It’s as though the desire of our stomach takes control. The resulting array of emotions exposes our vulnerabilities and proves just how powerful our appetite can really be. So, how can we combat something as powerful as intense cravings?Today’s scripture gives us insight. The power of God’s Word, the Bible, is far greater than our most intense cravings. It restores our soul, quiets our spirit, and eases our fear and anxiety. 1 John 4:4 reminds us, “Greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world.” 2 Timothy 1:7 encourages that if we know Jesus personally, we have a spirit of “power, love, and self-discipline.”From cover to cover the Bible assures us that God always provides for every need. As you read and take in the power of God’s Word, let it nourish you and embolden you to overcome even the most intense of cravings.
