WWJD

February 11, 2024
Romans 8:9 (NLT) “But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)”
John 14:26 (NLT) “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

Think

Remember those trendy bracelets and keychains from the ’90s with the initials WWJD? Maybe you’re even wearing one now—after all, ’90s fashion is making a comeback! Beyond being a fashion statement, those four letters answer life’s complexities, our questions, and even our deepest pain: “What Would Jesus Do?”

WWJD was meant to be a pause button, a reminder to stop and ponder when faced with temptation or challenges. It offered a moment of quiet reflection and an opportunity to make decisions based on Jesus’ wisdom and his Word.

Some of us find it difficult to discern what Jesus would do in our situation. Meanwhile, others, even if they knew, find emulating him nearly impossible; they lack the strength to be just like Jesus. But instead of being paralyzed by feelings of inadequacy, as if we are poor copies, we can become vessels, excellent dwelling places for his Holy Spirit.

Consider an empty glove. Imagine telling it to pick up a drink. Seems absurd, right? But when a hand slips inside that glove, suddenly, it gains the ability to carry out tasks. Similarly, overcoming temptation isn’t about our abilities alone or mimicking Jesus independently. It’s about the strength of the Holy Spirit residing within us—his power working through us, making us powerful.

Apply

Dive into the Gospels, learning about Jesus’ life, teachings, and actions. Allow his example to shape your thoughts and actions (John 8:31-32).

Allow his presence to transform and guide you, making you a reflection of Christ to those around you (2 Corinthians 4:7).

Pray

Jesus, teach me to stop in decision-making moments to seek your wisdom and guidance. Please help me to dive deeper into your Word, immersing myself in your teachings. Please give me the strength to walk with character and wisdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
