Trust Choice

Luke 5:5-7 “Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’ When they had done so, they caught such a large number offish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.”

Think

As children, our dreams soar as high as the stars. We envision ourselves as astronauts, NFL players, or even the president, fueled by a desire to make a difference in the world. These aspirations symbolize significance and importance in our young minds. We assume that as we grow, we'll naturally gravitate towards paths that matter, ones that are meaningful and influential. Yet, as we journey through life, we often find ourselves questioning our purpose and the impact we're making.

Deep within our souls, we recognize a yearning for something greater. It transcends the material pursuits that money can buy or the fleeting pleasures of the moment. Our lives are meant for more than the temporary thrill of being "insta-famous." The core message of the Bible echoes this truth: each of us has a divine purpose. Whatever challenges we face, they serve a greater design, calling us to glorify and uplift God through our actions.

Consider the story of Peter, formerly known as Simon, who lived near Jesus. Simon witnessed firsthand the miracles and teachings of Jesus, yet he initially saw himself as just an ordinary fisherman. One day, Jesus interrupted Simon's routine, inviting him to be part of something far greater than he could imagine. Despite Simon's weariness and doubt, Jesus saw his potential and called him to become a "fisher of men."

Similarly, we may doubt our worthiness and capability to fulfill our calling. Yet, like Simon, we're reminded that God sees beyond our limitations. He instills purpose and value within us, urging us to overcome the doubts and fears that hold us back from embracing his plan for our lives. Just as Jesus transformed Simon into Peter, he can also transform our doubts into unwavering faith, guiding us toward a life filled with purpose and significance.

Apply

God’s calling often exceeds our perceived limitations, and that causes us to doubt. God's plan for our lives may not align with our expectations, but his vision for us is far greater than we can fathom. What is an area where you doubt your abilities or worthiness? Thank God that he can do “exceedingly more than we could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). Assume a position of openness and surrender, trusting his wisdom.

Pray

God, thank you for reminding me that my life holds great purpose and significance in your eyes. Help me to surrender all my doubts and fears and lay them at your feet. Speak your truth into my heart, reminding me of my identity and purpose in Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
