The Shallow Heart

August 5, 2020

Read

Matthew 13:5-6, "Some fell on the rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root."Matthew 13:20-21, “The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.”

Think

Fads come and go. But quickly, what's hot today is a "not" tomorrow. That's to be expected when it comes to fashion, food, or the latest workout craze, but when it comes to that which matters most — our spiritual life — it's absolutely not! Jesus is never out of style. He is the ultimate trendsetter for the heart.Great crowds followed Jesus, but only a few were His true disciples. The masses viewed Him with shallow hearts, and, sadly, it's very much the same today. For many people, trusting Jesus is all about emotions and the desire for it to just "feel right." But the moment trouble strikes, they fall away from their walk with Christ.Jesus didn't come to play to our emotions. He didn't step down through time and space to make us feel warm and fuzzy. He came to transform our hearts so that no matter the circumstance or feelings involved, we could learn to rely on His strength, comfort, provision, and protection.Remember, God is not a trend. He wants the seed of His Spirit to resonate deeply within our hearts with everlasting roots so that no matter what trouble or persecution comes, we may stand firm in the soils of faith.

Act

Keep this thought in mind today: Trust is more than just a word; it’s an essential faith action! Act on your faith today!

Pray

Dear God, I want to seek You with my whole heart. When things get tough, help me to trust You fully and experience Your peace through Christ. Thank You for blessing my life with Your amazing grace! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
