Numbers 20:10, "He (Moses) and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, 'Listen, you rebels, must WE bring you water out of this rock?'"Proverbs 11:2, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Muhammad Ali, heavyweight boxing champ, was once on a plane in turbulent weather. Passengers were instructed to fasten their seatbelts immediately. Everyone complied — except Ali. The flight attendant requested that he observe the captain's order, only to hear Ali audaciously respond, "Superman don't need no seatbelt." Not missing a beat, the flight attendant replied, "Superman don't need no airplane either."Moses was fed up with the Israelite's constant moaning and groaning about being thirsty in the desert. God heard their cries and told Moses to speak to the rock in the presence of His people, and it would yield water. Instead of obeying God, he lectured them and said, "Must we bring you water out of this rock?" Then, arrogantly acting as God's equal, he struck the rock twice. Unfortunately, the consequence of his prideful disobedience cost him. God didn't allow him to enter the Promised Land.We all struggle with pride; it's the forerunner of all sin. Like Moses, we disobey God and attempt to do what we think is best. No matter the situation, when we give in to pride, we gain nothing but disappointment, dissatisfaction, and consequences. Don't allow the ride of pride to take you where you'll miss out on seeing the amazing things God has in store for your life.Moses wasn't Superman, and neither are you — but Jesus is! Trust Him. His way is always best. So, buckle up!
Where is pride rearing its ugly head in your life? What are you trying to maintain control over with a white-knuckle grip? Admit that you don’t have to be in control, that you aren’t God’s equal. Ask for help, if needed, and realize that you’re here to bring God — not yourself — glory!
Dear God, Please help me remember that I am not Your equal, that I’m not in control. I want to get off the ride of pride and grow in my walk with You. Guide me to put others above myself with a humble attitude. Thank you for loving me unconditionally despite all of my flaws. Amen.
