Ride of Readiness

April 18, 2022

Read

Matthew 4:18-20, “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once, they left their nets and followed him.”

Think

Can you imagine Jesus calling out to you and asking you to leave everything you know to come and follow Him? Jesus asked Peter to leave his former life behind and the only trade he’d ever known to follow Him! This was just the start of Peter’s roller-coaster ride.

God had a big idea for Peter’s life, and He has countless ideas and thoughts about you! His thoughts are all good, and they would blow our minds if we could see all of the incredible plans He has for us.

He wants us to view life as a continual opportunity to fish for men and women and give them the chance to become committed followers of Jesus, too. This week, we will be looking at Peter’s roller-coaster ride, with its highs and lows, because he is like us.

Have you totally committed to following in Peter’s footsteps? There’s nothing greater! It’s the highest high you’ll ever experience as you navigate the ups and downs of your own personal roller coaster ride called “life.”

Act

Reread today’s passage and ask yourself what you would have done if you had been in Peter’s shoes. Peter’s faith was the first step in God’s unique plan for his life. What step of faith — no matter how small — do you need to take today?

Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, give me the faith to step where You want me to step each day. Use these steps of obedience to take me where You want me to go! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
