Remember

Read:

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Think:

Billy Graham once found himself standing by the bedside of a young boy in Korea who had been injured by a shell blast. Though the boy's spine had been torn away, he was somehow still alive. Unable to move, he was informed by doctors that if he did survive, he would have to spend the rest of his life lying on his stomach. Despite the severity of his injuries, the boy made a statement that stuck with Dr. Graham: "It was worth it if it will keep America free!"

We often hear the phrase "Freedom isn't free," but how many of us truly understand the weight of that statement? As we celebrate Memorial Day and honor the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for our country, it's important that we take a moment to reflect on the true cost of our freedom.

From the Battle of Lexington and Concord to the present day, approximately 1,354,664 Americans have given their lives in service to their country. That number is staggering, and it's difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the sacrifice that each of these individuals made.

This Memorial Day, let us take a moment to give thanks for the men and women who have shown such great love for their country. Let us remember the freedoms that we enjoy, and the cost at which they were secured. As we reflect on the sacrifices that have been made, let us also pray for the families and loved ones of those who have given their lives, that they may find comfort and peace. May we never forget the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom, and may we always be grateful for the men and women who have served our country with such honor and distinction.
