Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.”

Think

When you’re expecting company, you make space. You clear the table. You add chairs. You open windows. You prepare for someone to walk through the door.

Isaiah 54 opens with that same tone of expectation. The people of God were weary. They had been through barrenness, defeat, and silence. But now God is telling them to prepare again. To make room. To stretch. To believe that something is coming.

The tent image is more than poetic. It’s practical. Tents were the center of family life. To stretch a tent meant to expand your home. It meant you were preparing for growth. It meant you were believing that what is ahead will require more space than what is behind. And then God gives this instruction: “Do not hold back.”

In other words, stop playing it safe. Stop praying small. Stop shrinking your life to match your disappointments. Start preparing like God is going to do more.

Faith is often expressed before it is fulfilled. You stretch the tent before you see the crowd. You dig the ditches before the rain comes. You prepare the jars before the oil flows. All throughout Scripture, God’s people were challenged to make room before the miracle arrived. And that challenge still applies today.

Many of us want God to do something new, but we haven’t made space for it. We want freedom, but keep our schedules so full we never pause to hear from him. We want deeper purpose, but won’t step into the uncomfortable places that purpose requires. We want an encore of heaven, but our hearts are still crammed with doubt, fear, or control. Making room for more does not mean working harder. It means surrendering deeper.

It means releasing the old version of how you thought life would go so God can bring something better. It means loosening your grip on what was so you can embrace what is next. It means clearing out the distractions so your soul has space to breathe.

Sometimes the greatest act of faith is cleaning the guest room before you even send the invitation. It’s making space not because you know how God will show up, but because you believe that he will.

Jesus often taught this principle through action. He told Peter to throw the net on the other side even after a long night of failure. He told the disciples to feed the crowd even though they had no food. He told a man to stretch out his hand before healing it. God responds to faith that prepares.

That’s what makes this series so powerful. It is not just about looking back at what God has done. It is about preparing for what he is about to do. It is about believing that 2026 is not just another calendar year. It is an invitation for God to move again in new ways.

You may have come into this year tired. You may have been hanging on by a thread. You may feel stretched thin. But today is a declaration that your story is not finished. That God’s power has not run out. That heaven still has more to give. So how do you make room?

Start with your schedule. Make time to be still. Carve out intentional moments for prayer and Scripture. Not as religious boxes to check, but as sacred spaces where God can speak.

Look at your relationships. Are there people who drain your faith rather than build it? Are there voices that constantly speak fear, negativity, or distraction? Make room by choosing voices of truth, community, and encouragement.

Look at your habits. What rhythms help you sense God’s presence? What practices stir your soul? Making room is not about becoming perfect. It is about creating patterns where God can meet you. And don’t forget your mindset. Maybe the space you need to make is in your thinking. Maybe you need to stretch your faith to believe that God can still surprise you. That your best days are not behind you. That what he wants to do next might look different than what you imagined, but it will be good.

There is something about expectation that changes everything. Expectant people pray differently. They live with open hands. They walk with eyes wide open. They serve, give, and love like something is on the way.

That is how we are called to live. Not cautiously. Not defeated. Not closed off by past disappointment. But with faith that stretches. God wants to write a new chapter. The encore is coming. Not because we earned it, but because he is good. Not because we deserve it, but because he delights in doing new things.

You do not have to stay stuck in yesterday. You can open the tent. Pull the curtains wide. Strengthen the foundation. And make room for more.

He is the same God right now as he was back then. He is not done with your mind, your marriage, your calling, or your capacity. His grace will not run out. His power will not fade. His presence will not leave. Make room.

Apply

Pick one area of your life where you need to stretch. Is it in your prayer life? Your relationships? Your schedule? Take one tangible step to create space for God to move. Trust that your preparation is not in vain.

Pray

God, I want to make room for more. Stretch my faith. Remove anything in my life that is crowding out your voice. Help me believe that your best work is not behind me. I open my heart to whatever you have planned next. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
