Luke 1

Read: Luke 1
Luke 1:1-4 “Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.”
Think
In today's world, postmodernism shapes much of our thinking, emphasizing that truth is personal and subjective. This philosophy asserts that truth is created rather than discovered, making the claim to possess absolute truth appear arrogant. You've likely encountered this when sharing your faith, only to hear, “That’s great for you, but I follow a different spiritual path.” This perspective reduces spiritual truth to mere personal opinion.
However, postmodernism isn't confined to secular society; it's also infiltrating the evangelical church. Studies reveal that a significant percentage of evangelicals don’t believe in absolute truth, with many agreeing that all faiths teach similar lessons about life. This shift prioritizes tolerance over doctrinal truth and feelings over rational thought. Personal testimonies often highlight emotional experiences rather than a conviction of Christianity’s truth claims.
While the Christian faith certainly involves the heart, it must be grounded in the historical and doctrinal truth revealed in Scripture. Emotional experiences are transient, but the foundation of our faith is unchanging truth. Without this foundation, we lack an objective basis to evaluate our feelings and beliefs. Christianity is rooted in the verifiable events of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, providing a solid ground for our faith.
Luke wrote his Gospel to assure his readers, including Theophilus, of the truth about Jesus Christ. By meticulously researching eyewitness accounts and written sources, Luke presented an accurate and orderly narrative of Jesus’ life and ministry. This Gospel challenges us to see Christianity not as a subjective philosophy but as the objective truth revealed by God. We are called to believe this truth, live by it, and pass it on to others, confident in its reliability and transformative power.
