Lead Me

January 25, 2020

Read

Matthew 6:13, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”Psalms 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Think

There’s a bumper sticker that reads, “Lead me not into temptation… I can find it myself.” That is precisely the problem we all face. We unnecessarily put ourselves in situations where we are vulnerable to temptation. We know our weaknesses, yet we walk into the same trap time and time again.Jesus knows that, if left to our own devices, we are prone to get ensnared in doing or saying something we shouldn't. Today's scripture puts a prayer on our lips that acknowledges our vulnerability to sin. Jesus teaches us to pray, “Don’t put me in a position where I might fall, because I will fall.”Above all else, today's reading positions us to be dependent upon God. Like children, we need His wisdom and protection. We need God to lead us every moment of the day. We pray with boldness, “Father, guide me through the traps of life so that I honor You with the totality of my being.” You may not find this prayer on a bumper sticker, but its truth is sure to set you free!

Act

Make a list of the areas in which you are most prone to temptation. Then, ask God to lead you and give you the wisdom and insight you need to safely navigate around your biggest temptations.

Pray

Dear God, I know that I am vulnerable in these areas____. Please give me the wisdom and insight to steer clear of trouble as I commit to follow Your leadership. Amen.
