Casting Thoughts

January 18, 2024
Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you can test and approve God's will – his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Think

Dale Carnegie was right: "Our thoughts make us what we are."

In Romans, Paul issues a challenge – a call to cast a line into the depths of our minds, engaging in a transformative process akin to a seasoned angler reeling in a catch. Imagine it as a mental fishing expedition, navigating the inner sanctum of our thoughts with the precision of a skilled fisherman.

Picture yourself standing at the mental shoreline. Are those thoughts of potential failures circling like elusive fish in a stream? Does the melody of regret and shame play persistently in your mental currents? Are you feeling the weight of defeat and the overwhelming tide? Broken thoughts, regrets, and the unwelcome entourage of shame might be nibbling at the bait you didn't even know you cast. It's time for a remix.

In the tackle box of wisdom, 2 Corinthians 10:5 unveils a profound truth – "Take every thought captive." It's a challenge, yes, but armed with the Holy Spirit as your fishing guide and immersing yourself in the Word of God as your bait, you wield the perfect gear to reel in guilt, shame, and those toxic thoughts.

Cast your prayers like a well-aimed line and listen to the ripples of wisdom from God’s Word on the water's surface of your mind. They form a dynamic angling duo, navigating the streams of your thoughts, tackling and triumphing over those elusive, not-so-friendly mental patterns. Yes, this is a battle, but it’s one you can win. With unwavering commitment, the guidance of Scripture, surrounding yourself with godly wisdom, and a good dose of seeking Jesus, victory over those slippery, unhealthy thought patterns isn't merely a possibility; it's practically a tug on the line, signaling that triumph is ready to be reeled in at your doorstep.
