Be Courageous

September 15, 2023

Read

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Think

Fear frequently emerges as our instinctive reaction. We don’t have to think of all our reasons to be afraid; fear comes unbidden. Conversely, courage and bravery don't usually spring forth effortlessly. Frequently, we must methodically assess reasons to conquer our fears with bravery. God's directive to embrace courage acknowledges its non-automatic nature; it demands our active pursuit. In the midst of the circling fears, including those arising from within, courage demands a deliberate seizure.

Courage is always fueled by faith. True courage finds its beginning, its wellspring, in faith in the inherent goodness of God and his promises in Jesus. Consequently, authentic courage must be acquired—grasping the tangible promises bestowed by God. In this manner, having exhausted every effort, we can resolutely withstand the trials that beset us, as we hold firmly o Jesus, standing on his unshakeable promises.

Apply

Be willing to act with faith and courage when Jesus tells you to do something. If he speaks, we move.

Pray

God, I will answer your call with bravery. I will move with steadfastness and faith when you tell me. Help me to trust your words. In Jesus' name. Amen.
