Saved. Now What?
Imagine sitting at a table with the resurrected Jesus. You’ve spent three years witnessing His miracles, hearing His teachings, and now you’ve seen Him conquer death!
Then Jesus tells you something extraordinary: You’re about to receive power that will transform your life and accomplish things you never imagined.
How would you respond?
Well, here’s what the disciples said:
“Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” — Acts 1:6 (NIV)
Wait. What?
Jesus is telling them what He’s about to do THROUGH them, and they’re still asking what He’s going to do FOR them.
Sound familiar?
We give our lives to Jesus, experience His forgiveness, and begin following Him. But somewhere along the way, our faith can become centered on what we want Him to do for us.
Restore our marriages. Heal our families. Provide financially. Bring peace to our circumstances.
There’s nothing wrong with asking God for these things. But what if we’re so focused on what we need from Jesus that we’re missing what He wants to accomplish through us?
What if our next step isn’t another blessing to receive, but an opportunity to serve?
Start with your Jerusalem.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus promises His disciples the power of the Holy Spirit and calls them to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Notice the progression.
Jesus gives them a world-changing mission but tells them to start right where they are.
Not when they’re more qualified. Not when a bigger opportunity comes along. Right where they are.
Stop disqualifying yourself because you’re new to the faith, and stop discounting your Jerusalem because it doesn’t look as grand as you imagined.
Your Jerusalem is where God has placed you right now. And one of the greatest places to make a difference is your local church.
Every week, people walk through the doors searching for hope, healing, and belonging. And God uses ordinary people willing to serve to make an extraordinary difference.
You don’t have to reach the ends of the earth to begin changing someone’s world.
There's power in serving.
Jesus never expected His disciples to fulfill their mission through their own strength. He promised them the power of the Holy Spirit.
And that same Spirit is at work in us today.
God doesn’t just work THROUGH us when we serve. He works IN us.
Our faith grows. Our perspective changes. We discover gifts we never knew we had.
Serving isn’t simply about filling a position. It’s about participating in God’s purpose.
Whether you’ve been following Jesus for five days or fifty years, the invitation is the same.
Start where you are. Use what God has given you. Take the next step.
Because you weren’t just saved to attend church. You were saved to be part of the Church.
Saved. Now what?
Stop waiting for God to do something more for you and start discovering what He wants to do through you.
Your next step starts with serving.
