Don't Let Busy Steal What Matters Most

This time of year gets crazy. School events. Awards. Practices. Parties. Projects. If you have a 3rd–5th grader, your calendar can feel like a full-time job. And here's the tension: you can spend your whole life running your kids to everything and still miss what matters most.

In Luke 10, Martha was busy doing good things. But Jesus said Mary chose what was better — Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed — or indeed only one (Luke 10:41-42). Priority is the ability to say yes to the best. So the question isn't, "Are we busy?" It's, "Are we focused on what matters most?" Here's how to lead your family well in a packed season.

Evaluate Before You Add

Not every opportunity is a calling. Before saying yes, ask, "Will this help or hurt our family rhythm?"

Protect One Daily Connection Point

Dinner. Bedtime. Car rides. Pick one moment where connection wins over activity.

Teach Your Kids About Priorities

Let them hear you say no — for the right reasons. That's how they learn what matters most.

This week, look at your calendar and remove one unnecessary commitment. Use that time to connect with your child instead. Because busy is easy — but intentional takes leadership.
