Don’t Wrestle Pigs

August 14, 2026

2 Timothy 2:23-26 tells Timothy not to have anything to do with foolish arguments — not to win them, but to walk away from them. Screens create distance, distance breeds a keyboard courage nobody would show face to face, and the comments section is engineered for quarrels rather than kindness. Winning in a pig pen still leaves you covered in mud, and your peace is worth more than the last word.

Taken Away

August 14, 2026

Isaiah 6:5-7 shows what happens after Isaiah collapses in guilt: an angel flies to *him* with a coal from the altar and tells him his sin is taken away. Notice the direction—Isaiah doesn't crawl toward God, grace crosses the room to him, with no lecture and no list. You don't get clean and then come to God; you come to God and He cleans you, and the question that shapes your whole year isn't whether you fall but whether you know the way back to verse 7.

Where Your Treasure Is

August 14, 2026

Matthew 6:19-21 gives a little sad but true fact: every toy you own will one day break, wear out, or get lost. So Jesus said aim your heart at treasure in heaven instead—the love and kindness you give people never breaks and never gets stolen. And where your treasure is, your heart follows, so you were designed for something bigger than a pile of stuff that breaks.

Goodness When No One Claps

The Hidden Power of Goodness

Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good, encouraging us to remain faithful even when unnoticed, because God sees every quiet act of integrity and promises a harvest in His perfect time. This calls us to choose goodness not for recognition, but because it reflects God’s heart—transforming our lives from the inside out.

The Surrender That Stays

Luke 9:23 calls us to daily surrender by denying ourselves and following Jesus, showing that true self-control is less about mastering our impulses and more about consistently choosing Christ over comfort, allowing the Spirit to shape a life rooted in love and freedom.

The Other Side of “No”

Hebrews 12:11 reminds us that while discipline may feel painful in the moment, it ultimately produces lasting peace and righteousness, showing us that every “no” to impulse is a “yes” to the deeper transformation and freedom God is cultivating in us through the Spirit.

Sober-Minded in a Scrolling World

1 Peter 5:8 urges us to stay spiritually alert and clear-minded, reminding us that the enemy often attacks not through obvious sin but through distraction and dullness—so we must choose attentiveness over autopilot, allowing the Spirit to keep us focused, present, and grounded in truth.

The Strength to Stop

1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that no temptation is too strong to resist, because God is faithful and always provides a way out—reminding us that self-control begins not with more willpower, but with trusting His guidance and looking for His escape before the urge overwhelms.

When “Just This Once” Becomes a Pattern

Titus 2:11–12 shows us that God’s grace not only forgives our sin but actively trains us to live with self-control, helping us break patterns of compromise by exchanging momentary indulgence for lasting transformation rooted in love for Christ.

Craving Control

Proverbs 25:28 reminds us that lacking self-control leaves us vulnerable like a city without walls, but true strength comes not from willpower, but from daily dependence on the Holy Spirit to lead our desires and redirect our impulses toward what matters most.

Reflect and Respond

Philippians 4:5 calls us to let our gentleness be visible to everyone, reminding us that true strength in Christ is expressed through calm, compassionate presence—especially in pressure-filled moments—because the Lord is near. As we reflect on this week, we’re invited to let His Spirit shape our tone, posture, and responses to look more like Jesus in both public witness and personal growth.
