Don’t Wrestle Pigs

August 14, 2026

2 Timothy 2:23-26 tells Timothy not to have anything to do with foolish arguments — not to win them, but to walk away from them. Screens create distance, distance breeds a keyboard courage nobody would show face to face, and the comments section is engineered for quarrels rather than kindness. Winning in a pig pen still leaves you covered in mud, and your peace is worth more than the last word.

Taken Away

August 14, 2026

Isaiah 6:5-7 shows what happens after Isaiah collapses in guilt: an angel flies to *him* with a coal from the altar and tells him his sin is taken away. Notice the direction—Isaiah doesn't crawl toward God, grace crosses the room to him, with no lecture and no list. You don't get clean and then come to God; you come to God and He cleans you, and the question that shapes your whole year isn't whether you fall but whether you know the way back to verse 7.

Where Your Treasure Is

August 14, 2026

Matthew 6:19-21 gives a little sad but true fact: every toy you own will one day break, wear out, or get lost. So Jesus said aim your heart at treasure in heaven instead—the love and kindness you give people never breaks and never gets stolen. And where your treasure is, your heart follows, so you were designed for something bigger than a pile of stuff that breaks.

More Than Self-Control

Romans 7:21–22 reveals that even when evil lingers close, the true mark of a transformed heart is delighting in God’s law—a joy that fuels obedience from the inside out. Real change comes not just through self-control, but through Spirit-shaped desire that overpowers old patterns with a deeper love for what is good.

There’s a War in Me

Romans 7:18–20 reminds us that the war within—the desire to do good yet falling into sin—is not a sign of failure but proof that God’s Spirit is actively at work in us. Though our sinful nature resists, our struggle reveals a living faith, calling us to deeper surrender and trust in the One who fights for our transformation.

The Good That Slips Away

Romans 7:16–17 shows us that even when we fail to live out what we truly desire in Christ, our struggle reveals that sin no longer defines us—it merely lingers as a residue of our old life. The presence of this tension is not defeat but evidence that God’s transforming grace is still at work, reshaping us into who we are in Him.

Why Do I Keep Doing This?

Romans 7:15 reveals the inner conflict we all face—wanting to do what’s right but still falling into what we hate—reminding us that spiritual maturity isn’t about perfection but deeper honesty and dependence on Jesus. Our struggle isn’t a disqualification but a sign that grace is still at work, drawing us toward transformation through Christ.

When You Feel Stuck

Romans 7:14 reminds us that while God’s law is good, our ongoing struggle with sin is real—even for the faithful—yet this tension is not a sign of failure but an invitation to deeper grace, honesty, and dependence on Christ. Feeling stuck doesn't mean God is absent; it means His Spirit is still at work within us, drawing us toward healing and transformation.

Don’t Let It Reign

Romans 6:12–14 calls us to no longer let sin rule in our lives, but instead to offer every part of ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness, empowered by grace rather than controlled by law. Though sin may still tempt, it no longer has authority—Christ reigns, and in Him, we are free to live with purpose, surrender, and power.

Consider It Done

Romans 6:11 urges us to count ourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ, calling us to align our mindset with the spiritual reality of who we already are in Jesus. Even when feelings waver, we are invited to trust that His work is finished—and live each day from that truth, not toward it.

The Death That Changes Everything

Romans 6:9–10 declares that Jesus died to sin once for all and now lives to God, showing us that His victory over death is final and complete—ours to share through union with Him. This truth frees us from shame and striving, inviting us to live each day directed by His resurrection life and empowered by His unshakable grace.

Free, But Learning

Romans 6:7–8 reminds us that though we’ve been set free from sin through dying with Christ, we are still learning how to live out that freedom day by day. True transformation comes not from trying harder but from trusting deeper, believing we are already alive with Christ and growing into that reality step by step.

The Old You Is Gone

Romans 6:5–6 teaches that our old self was crucified with Christ, breaking sin’s power over us so we no longer have to live as its slaves but can walk in the freedom of our new identity. This isn't about self-improvement—it’s about living from the truth that we are already resurrected with Christ, free to become who He says we are.
