Under the Broom Tree
August 25, 2026
1 Kings 19:3b-4 finds Elijah collapsed under a desert bush, isolated and begging God to take his life. Isolation doesn't always look like a cave—sometimes it's a crowded room where everyone thinks they know you and no one actually does. The devotional calls us to break the drift toward aloneness, to tell one trusted person the real version of how we're doing, because connection starves the lie that self-pity feeds.

They Asked for Boldness
August 25, 2026
Acts 4:29-31 flips the prayer every student knows—move the mountain, cancel the test, get me out of this. The church, walking out of court with threats hanging over them, doesn't pray for the threats to stop. They ask God to change them inside their circumstances: not for safety but for boldness, the very thing that got them arrested. And notice they had to ask—boldness wasn't a one-time Pentecost download; two chapters later they're requesting it again. It's a dangerous prayer, because God tends to answer it with a chance rather than a feeling.

When Nobody Does the Right Thing
August 25, 2026
Matthew 5:46 says something that pushes past easy: if you only love the people who love you back, what's so special about that? Anybody can be nice to their friends. God is calling you to something bigger—to be kind even when nobody else is, to sit with the lonely kid even when it feels scary. Most of the time when someone's being picked on, other kids feel bad but stay quiet because they're scared. One brave kid choosing kindness can change everything, and you don't do it alone—God gives you the bravery.
