What the Sky Is Saying

Romans 1:19-20 "…since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

Think

Go outside tonight and look up at the stars. Really look. There are more of them than anyone could ever count. Now think about a tiny ladybug crawling on a leaf, with its little dotted wings that fold up under a shell. The huge and the tiny were both made by the same God.

Here is something amazing that the Bible tells us. God is talking to us all the time through the things he made. You do not need words on a page to know that a painter made a painting. You look at it and you just know. The world is like that. When you look at mountains and oceans and puppies and thunderstorms, they are all pointing at the God who made them.

This part of the Bible says God’s power and who he is have been clearly seen ever since the world began, in the things he made. That means anybody, anywhere, can look around and figure out that there is a big, powerful, creative God behind all of it.

Think about it like fingerprints. When you touch something, you leave a little print behind. God left his fingerprints all over creation. A sunset is a fingerprint. A snowflake is a fingerprint. The way your body heals a scraped knee all by itself is a fingerprint.

So one of the ways God speaks is through everything he made. When you feel amazed looking at the ocean or a giant tree, that is not nothing. That is your heart hearing God say, “I made this. And I made you too.”

You do not have to wait for a special moment to start hearing God. You can hear him today, just by paying attention to the world he built. Look closely. It is all saying something about how great he is.

Apply

Go on a God hunt – Sometime today, find one thing outside that amazes you. A bug, a cloud, a leaf, a bird. Stop and say, “God, I can see you made this.” Let creation point you back to him.

Pray

God, thank you for filling the world with things that show me how great you are. Help me slow down and notice them. When I see something amazing, remind me that you made it, and you made me too. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
