Think
Imagine your cousin calls you, super excited. “We got a new puppy!” she says. “He’s fluffy and brown and white, and he has one floppy ear, and his tail is super curly.”
You try to picture it. But it’s hard. Is he big or small? How fluffy is fluffy?
Then she sends a photo. And there he is! Now you know exactly what he looks like.
People have always wondered what God is like. And the Bible gives us the best answer ever.
God is invisible. That means we can’t see him with our eyes. We can see the things he made, like sunsets and snowflakes. But we can’t see God himself.
So how can we know what he’s like? Today’s verse tells us. It says Jesus “is the image of the invisible God.”
Remember how people are made in God’s image? Jesus is God’s image in an even bigger way. Jesus is God. He came to earth as a person so we could see what God is really like.
Jesus is like that photo of the puppy. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
And what was Jesus like? He loved kids. When his friends tried to send children away, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” He touched sick people and made them well. He ate dinner with people nobody else wanted to sit with. He forgave people who did wrong things.
That’s what God is like! He loves kids. He cares about people who are hurting. He forgives. He never gives up on anyone.
Some people think God is grumpy or far away. But when you look at Jesus, you see a God who is kind, close, and full of love.
The more you learn about Jesus, the more you learn about God. Every Bible story about Jesus is like another picture showing us who God is.
So do you want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus.
Apply
Read about Jesus – Ask a grown-up to read Mark 10:13-16 with you today. It’s the story of Jesus welcoming the children. Talk about what that story shows you about God.
Pray
God, thank you for sending Jesus to show me what you are like. Thank you that you are kind and close and full of love. Help me know Jesus more every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
