Genesis 1:31 “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”

Think

Imagine a boy named Ethan who works on a Lego castle all Saturday afternoon. He builds tall towers. He adds a drawbridge that really goes up and down. He even makes a tiny dragon to guard the gate.

When he finally snaps on the last piece, he steps back and looks at the whole thing. He grins from ear to ear. “It’s good,” he whispers. Then louder: “It’s really, really good!”

Have you ever felt that way about something you made?

God felt that way too, at the very end of creation.

For six days, God made everything. Light and darkness. Water and land. Plants, stars, fish, birds, and animals of every kind. And last of all, he made people in his image.

Then God stepped back and looked at all of it. The Bible says he saw everything he had made, “and it was very good.”

Not okay. Not pretty good. Very good! That included the mountains and the oceans. It included the giraffes and the ladybugs. And it included the people.

Here’s something to think about. Sometimes kids look in the mirror and don’t like what they see. Maybe you wish you were taller, or faster, or better at math. Maybe someone made fun of your hair or your glasses and it made you wish you were different.

But God looked at the people he made and said, “Very good.” And he looks at you and says the same thing.

That doesn’t mean you’ll never make mistakes. Everybody does. Later in the story, people started disobeying God. But God never stopped loving the people he made. He even sent Jesus to make a way for us to be close to him again.

You are God’s creation. God doesn’t make junk. He made you on purpose, with care, and he is glad he made you.

So the next time you feel like you’re not good enough, picture Ethan standing in front of his castle. Now picture God stepping back and looking at you. What does he say?

“Very good.”

Apply

Say what God says – If you start to say something mean about yourself today, stop. Instead say, “God made me, and he says I’m very good.”

Pray

God, thank you for making me on purpose. When I feel like I’m not good enough, help me remember what you say about me. Thank you for loving me so much. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
