Too Wonderful to Count

Psalm 139:17-18 "How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you."

Think

Have you ever tried to count the sand on a beach? You could scoop up just one handful and there would be more grains than you could count in a whole day. Now think about the entire beach. Then every beach in the whole world. That is way too much sand to ever count.

David used that giant picture to describe something incredible. He said God's thoughts about us are more than all the grains of sand. That means God thinks about you more times than you could ever count.

Stop and let that sink in. Right now, God is thinking about you. And a minute from now. And while you sleep tonight. And when you wake up tomorrow. His thoughts about you never run out. They are more than all the sand on all the beaches.

Sometimes we feel forgotten. Maybe a friend did not invite you to something. Maybe you feel like nobody really notices you. That is a lonely feeling, and it is real.

But you are never forgotten by God. Not for one second. You are on his mind constantly. If you could see all the loving thoughts God has about you, you would be buried in them like a giant, cozy pile of sand.

And here is a sweet part at the end of the verse. David says, when I awake, I am still with you. Every morning when you open your eyes, God is already there. He was thinking about you all night, and he is right there when you wake up.

You matter to God more than you can imagine. His thoughts about you are precious and countless and full of love. You are treasured. You are wanted. You are never, ever forgotten.

That is who you really are. A kid that the God of the whole universe cannot stop thinking about.

Apply

Grab something small – Hold a tiny thing today, like a pinch of sand, some sugar, or a small pebble. Let it remind you that God's loving thoughts about you are more than you could ever count.

Pray

God, I can hardly believe you think about me more than all the sand on the beach. Thank you that I am never forgotten by you. When I feel unnoticed, remind me how much I am on your mind. In Jesus' name. Amen.
