Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Think

Dig in your pocket or a piggy bank and pull out a quarter. Look closely. Whose face do you see?

That’s George Washington, the very first president of the United States. His picture has been stamped on quarters for almost a hundred years. When you see his face on that coin, you know where it came from. The image tells you who it belongs to.

You know what? God stamped his image on something too. And it’s not a coin. It’s you!

The very first chapter of the Bible tells how God made everything. He made the sky and the oceans. He made the stars, the trees, the fish, and the elephants. Every single thing he made was amazing.

But when God made people, he did something extra special. The Bible says God created people “in his own image.” Image means a picture or a likeness. God made people to be like him in some ways.

Now, that doesn’t mean God has freckles or curly hair. It means God made us to reflect who He is on the inside. God loves, and he made us to love him and others. God creates, and he gave us the ability to be creative. God is wise and good, and he wants us to grow in wisdom and choose what is right. And unlike any other part of creation, he made us with the special purpose of knowing Him, loving Him, and reflecting His character in the world.

The Bible also says God made “male and female,” boys and girls, all in his image. Every person you have ever met carries God’s image. Every single one.

Here’s what that means for you. You aren’t an accident. You aren’t just a random kid. You carry the image of the God who made the whole universe. That makes you valuable, and nothing can ever take that away.

Some days you might not feel very special. Maybe you messed up, or someone said something unkind. But feelings don’t change the stamp. A quarter still has Washington’s face even when it’s dirty. And you still carry God’s image, even on your worst day.

So say it with me: “I am made in the image of God.”

That’s who you are. You are special and God loves you.

Apply

Remember your stamp – Put a coin in your pocket today. Every time you touch it, remember: “I am made in the image of God.”

Pray

God, thank you for making me in your image. Thank you that I am valuable to you, even on bad days. Help me remember who I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
