2 Timothy 3:17 "…so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Think

Have you ever watched someone pack a backpack for a big hike? They think ahead. Water, snacks, a map, a jacket in case it gets cold. They are getting ready before they go, so they will have what they need when they are far up the trail.

Today’s verse says the Bible gets us ready, or equipped, for every good work. Reading the Bible now is like packing your backpack for later. You are filling up on God’s words today so you will have exactly what you need when a real moment comes.

Think about how that works. You read a verse about being brave on a calm morning. Then, weeks later, you are scared to stand up for a friend who is being picked on. And that verse pops right back into your mind at the perfect time. It was in your backpack the whole while.

Here is the bridge to your week. Every time you read the Bible, you are getting ready for good works you cannot even see coming yet. God knows what is up ahead for you. He is packing your backpack now so you will be ready then.

Notice the verse says every good work, not just some. God wants to prepare you for all kinds of good things: being kind, telling the truth, forgiving someone, helping when it is hard. The Bible has something to get you ready for each one.

So do not think of Bible reading as homework. Think of it as packing for an adventure. God is getting you ready for a life full of good works, and his words are exactly what you need for the trail ahead.

And you are not packing that backpack alone. God is right there with you, helping you get ready and walking the trail beside you. He would never send you up the mountain without the things you need. That is how much he cares about the good works he has planned for you.

Apply

Pack your backpack – Think of one good thing you might get to do this coming week, like helping at home or being a good friend. Ask God to use his words to get you ready for it.

Pray

God, thank you that your words get me ready for whatever is ahead. Pack my heart with what I need for the good things you have planned. Help me be ready to do good work for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
