Psalm 139:7-10 "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."
Think
Have you ever played hide and seek and found the best hiding spot ever? You squeeze into a closet or under a bed, and you think, “Nobody will ever find me here.” It is exciting to be hidden.
David played a kind of thinking game in this psalm. He wondered, is there anywhere I could go where God is not there? He tried to imagine the farthest, most hidden places he could think of.
Way up in the sky? God is there. Way down in the deepest, darkest place? God is there too. All the way across the ocean, on the far side of the sea? God is already there, waiting.
David figured out something wonderful. There is no place in the whole universe where God is not with you. You literally cannot go anywhere alone. God is always, always there.
Now think about your own life. You go to school. Maybe you walk into a classroom where you do not know anybody yet. Maybe you feel small and alone, like the only kid without a friend.
But you are not actually alone. God is right there in that classroom with you. When you feel nervous walking into a new place, his hand is guiding you. When something feels scary, his right hand is holding you tight.
Sometimes the hardest moments are when we feel all by ourselves. Nighttime when the room is dark. The bus when nobody sits with us. The moment we mess up in front of everyone. But even there, God is there. He does not just watch from far away. He is close enough to hold your hand.
Isn't that different from hide and seek? In that game, being found means the game is over. But with God, being found is the best part. He is not trying to catch you to win. He stays with you because he loves you and never wants you to be alone.
You never have to face anything alone. Not one single thing. Wherever you go this week, God has already gone ahead of you, and he is right beside you, holding on tight and never letting go.
Apply
Remember he is there – The next time you walk into a place that feels scary or lonely, whisper to yourself, "God is here with me." He is holding your hand even when you cannot feel it.
Pray
God, thank you that I can never go anywhere without you. When I feel alone or scared, remind me that you are right there holding my hand. I am so glad you never leave me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
