Made on Purpose

Psalm 139:13-14 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Think

Have you ever watched someone knit a scarf or a blanket? They take yarn and loop it over and over, so carefully, one stitch at a time. It takes a long time. Every single loop matters. When they finish, it is soft and warm and made just right.

David said God knit you together. That is the exact word he used. Before you were even born, God was carefully making you, stitch by stitch, on purpose, with love. You are not an accident. You are a handmade masterpiece.

Then David said something we should all say about ourselves. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. That means you are made in an amazing, wonderful, awesome way. God did incredible work when he made you.

Think about how amazing you actually are. Your eyes can see a thousand colors. Your ears can hear music. Your brain can imagine and dream and remember. Your heart beats all day long without you even telling it to. God made all of that.

Here is something important. God did not make a mistake when he made you. Not your laugh, not your freckles, not the way your brain works, not the things that make you different. He made every part on purpose, and he called it wonderful.

Sometimes kids compare themselves to others. “I wish I were taller. I wish I were faster. I wish I were more like that other kid.” But God did not want another copy of someone else. He wanted you. The one and only you.

You are wonderfully made. When you look in the mirror, you are looking at something God carefully knit together and was proud of. That is your true identity. Not what other people say about you. What God says.

And God says you are wonderful. He should know. He made you.

Apply

Thank God for one thing – Look in the mirror today and thank God for one thing about how he made you. Maybe your smile, your kindness, or the way your mind works. He made it on purpose.

Pray

God, thank you for making me on purpose, stitch by stitch, with love. Help me believe that I am wonderfully made, just the way you wanted. When I compare myself to others, remind me that you made me to be me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
