Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Let’s take a journey through history, exploring the evolution of our eating habits. From the three meals a day concept introduced by England in the 1700s to the ancient Romans’ single daily meal and the Greeks’ breakfast of old bread soaked in wine, we’ve seen various approaches to nourishment over time. Even in the Middle Ages, dining customs were influenced by religious practices, with people abstaining from eating before morning mass and considering dinner as the main meal of the day.

But in these physical culinary shifts, one constant remains: our innate spiritual hunger for something more. While our physical appetites may vary, God designed us to hunger for him. Just as Christianity is rooted in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, our spiritual life is marked by a consistent longing to know him more deeply. This hunger for God, this desire to be drawn into a deeper knowledge of Jesus, has been a defining characteristic of God’s people throughout history.

And here’s the beautiful truth: as we grow in our hunger for God, we are propelled into our God-given purpose. Knowing him intimately means becoming active participants in seeing his kingdom advance across the globe. Our hunger for God fuels our passion for his work in the world, driving us to engage in acts of grace, truth, and hope.

Our hunger for God should be insatiable. There is always more to discover, more depths to explore, more of his presence to experience. As we continually seek after Jesus with fervent hearts, we come to realize that the journey of knowing God is endless—a journey filled with wonder, discovery, and transformation. Let’s embrace our hunger for God, allowing it to shape our lives and propel us forward in our faith journey.
