Genesis 1:29-30 “Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.’ And it was so.”
Think
Right after God made the first people, he did something really thoughtful. He showed them all the food he had made for them.
God pointed to the plants and the fruit trees. “They will be yours for food,” he said. And he didn’t forget the animals. God gave the birds and the beasts and even the tiny crawling creatures green plants to eat.
Before anyone got hungry, God already had lunch ready!
Here is a fun way to see how amazing that is.
The next time you have an apple, ask a grown-up to cut it in half the short way, right across the middle. Look inside. You’ll see a little star shape! And inside that star are seeds.
Now think about this. Each tiny seed could grow into a whole apple tree. Each tree could grow hundreds of apples. And each of those apples has more seeds inside. God packed a whole orchard into one little apple!
That’s what the Bible means by “seed-bearing” plants. God didn’t just make food for one day. He made food that makes more food. He planned ahead for every family, every animal, and every generation.
Isn’t God amazing?
Sometimes we forget where our food comes from. We think it comes from the grocery store or the drive-through. But every apple, carrot, and grain of rice started with a seed that God designed.
God thought of everything. He cared about what people and animals would need before they even asked.
And guess what? He still cares about what you need. He knows when you’re hungry. He knows when you’re tired. He knows when you need a friend. The same God who put seeds in apples is paying attention to you.
You were never an afterthought to God. He planned for you from the very beginning.
So the next time you eat, stop for a second. Look at your food. And remember the God who thought of everything.
Apply
Find the apple star – Ask a grown-up to cut an apple across the middle so you can see the star and the seeds. Count the seeds and thank God for planning ahead.
Pray
God, thank you for the food you made and for thinking of everything we need. Thank you for caring about me before I even ask. Help me be thankful every time I eat. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
