Psalm 139:16 "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."
Think
Imagine God has a book about your life. Not to scare you, but to comfort you. In this book, God has known about all your days since before you were even born. Every single one.
That is what David is talking about. He said that all his days were written in God's book before even one of them happened. God saw David's whole life ahead of time. And God sees yours too.
Think about what that means. God already knows about today. He knew about it before you woke up this morning. He knows about tomorrow, and next week, and next year. Nothing about your life takes God by surprise.
Sometimes the future feels a little scary. What will middle school be like? What if I move? What if things change? When you do not know what is coming, your tummy can get that nervous, fluttery feeling.
But here is the peace in this verse. You do not know what is coming, but God does. He has already seen every one of your days. He is not nervous about your future, because he is already there in it, waiting for you with a plan.
It is like when your parents plan a trip. You might not know all the details, but they do. You can relax in the back seat because someone who loves you is driving and knows the way. You are in good hands.
God is like that, but even better. He knows every turn in the road of your life. He has good plans for you. You can trust him with the parts you cannot see yet, because he can see all of it.
Your days are written in the book of a God who loves you. You do not have to figure out the whole future. You just have to trust the One who already knows it.
Apply
Trust him with tomorrow – When you feel nervous about something coming up, tell God about it, then say, "You already know about this day, and you are already there." Let him carry your future.
Pray
God, thank you that you already know all my days, even the ones that have not happened yet. When the future feels scary, help me trust that you are already there with a good plan. I am in your hands. In Jesus' name. Amen.
