Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”

Think

Have you ever fallen asleep in the car on the way home late at night?

Maybe it was after a long day at the lake, or a family party that went way past your bedtime. You climb into the back seat. It's dark outside. The car hums along the road. Your eyes get heavy, and then you're out.

Here's the funny part. You don't know which roads you took. You don't know how many turns there were or if you stopped for gas. You weren't watching at all!

And yet somehow you wake up the next morning in your own bed. Somebody drove you home. Somebody carried you inside.

You could fall asleep because you trusted the driver.

That is a big part of what this month's memory verse is about. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”

This week, God's people learned a lot about trust. They took the long way around, and they didn't know why. They got stuck by the sea, and they couldn't see a way out. Then they watched God split the sea wide open and lead them through on dry ground.

Over and over, God's people couldn't see what God was doing. But God knew. He was driving the whole time.

Trusting God with all your heart means you don't have to see everything to feel safe. You don't have to know every turn. You can rest, because you know Who is in charge.

That doesn't mean you'll never have questions. The Israelites had lots of questions! It's okay to ask God why. It's okay to tell him you're scared. Trust isn't pretending you're not worried. Trust is bringing your worries to the One who can handle them.

Tonight, when you climb into bed, think about that car ride. Think about how you let someone else drive while you rested.

God is driving. He knows the way home. You can rest in him.

Apply

Say it at bedtime – At bedtime tonight, say the memory verse out loud: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Proverbs 3:5. Then tell God one thing you are trusting him with.

Pray

God, I can't always see what you are doing. But I know you are in charge, and I know you love me. Help me trust you with all my heart, even when I can't see the whole road. In Jesus' name. Amen.
