Exodus 14:21-22, 31 “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.”
Think
Imagine you're on a hike with your grandpa. The trail is great until you come to a creek. The water is too wide to jump and too deep to walk through in your sneakers. “Guess we have to turn around,” you say.
But Grandpa smiles. He finds big, flat rocks and sets them in the water, one after another. Plop. Plop. Plop. Soon there's a path of stepping stones all the way across. You hop from rock to rock, and your feet stay totally dry.
Where there was no way, Grandpa made a way.
Now take that stepping-stone path and make it a million times bigger. That's what God did at the Red Sea.
Moses stretched out his hand over the water, just like God said. Then God sent a strong wind. It blew all night long. And the sea split right down the middle!
The water piled up on both sides, like two giant walls. In between was a path. It wasn't even muddy. It was dry ground!
Can you imagine walking through that? Water towering on your right. Water towering on your left. Maybe you could even see fish swimming by inside the walls! And your sandals didn't get wet.
Every single one of God's people made it safely to the other side. The army couldn't catch them, and God's people were finally free.
Now look at the last verse. When the people saw what God did, they put their trust in him. They had seen God's power with their own eyes. Now they knew he could be trusted.
Remember how stuck they felt? An army behind them. A sea in front. But God had a way the whole time. They just couldn't see it yet.
God is really good at making a way where there seems to be no way. It's one of his favorite things to do.
So when you face something that looks impossible, remember the sea. Remember the walls of water and the dry ground. The God who did that is your God too. He can make a way for you.
Apply
Draw the sea path – Draw a picture of God's people walking through the sea on dry ground. Hang it in your room to remind you that God can make a way.
Pray
God, you are so powerful! You made a path right through the sea. When things look impossible, help me remember that you can make a way. I trust you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
