Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
Think
Here is a little experiment you can picture in your head. Imagine an empty cup. Now try to pour water out of it into someone else's cup. What happens? Nothing comes out. You cannot give away water you do not have. An empty cup has nothing to share.
Now imagine that same cup, but this time it is filled all the way to the top and overflowing, spilling over the sides. That cup cannot help but pour into other cups around it. It is so full that it just naturally spills out onto everyone nearby.
This whole week, God has been filling up your cup. He filled it Monday when you learned you are fully known. He filled it when you learned you can never go anywhere alone. He filled it up with truth. You were made on purpose. Your days are in his book. He thinks about you more than the grains of sand on every beach.
That is a very full cup. And here is what our memory verse is really about. When your cup is that full of God's love, it starts to overflow onto the people around you. That overflow is your light shining.
Think about it. A kid who knows deep down that they are loved by God has so much to give. They are not walking around empty, desperate for someone to make them feel okay. They are full. So when they see a lonely kid, they have kindness to spare. When someone is mean, they do not fall apart, because their cup is full from somewhere the mean kid cannot reach.
That is why the memory verse says people will see your good deeds and give glory to your Father in heaven. Your good deeds are just your full cup spilling over. And when people ask why you have so much love to give, you get to point them straight to the One who fills you up.
So this is your purpose, and you were designed for it. Let God fill your cup every day by remembering who you are to him. Then let it overflow. You do not have to squeeze out love you do not have. You just have to stay full of his.
You are fully known, wonderfully made, and deeply loved. Your cup is full. Now go let it spill over onto everyone around you.
Apply
Let it overflow – Each morning this week, fill your cup by remembering one true thing God says about you. Then look for one person to pour into with a kind word or a helping hand.
Pray
God, thank you for filling my cup all week with the truth about who I am to you. I am known, made, and loved. Now help my cup overflow onto the people around me so they see you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
